Effective today, 150-bed Memorial Hermann Children's Hospital, Houston, named physician Steve Allen, 52, as its new chief executive officer. Allen has been chief medical officer at Memorial Hermann Hospital, which houses Children's, since 1996 and holds a master's in business administration as well as an M.D. He replaced former Children's CEO Jim Salyer, who retired in July. A spokeswoman said Allen is the only physician CEO within nine-hospital Memorial Hermann Healthcare System at present and the first-ever at Children's. He will continue on an interim basis in his former job as chief medical officer. -- by Paul Barr
