Tenet Healthcare Corp., Santa Barbara, Calif., announced two deals to sell a total of four hospitals off the 27-hospital divestiture list that Tenet announced in January. Tenet said it has agreed to transfer the assets of three hospitals in the Los Angeles area to Centinela Freeman HealthSystem. The hospitals are 370-bed Centinela Hospital Medical Center and 358-bed Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital, both in Inglewood, and 166-bed Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital in Marina del Rey. Terms were not disclosed at the request of the buyer, Tenet said. Tenet also announced that it sold Doctors Hospital of Jefferson, Metairie, La., to 448-bed East Jefferson General Hospital, located across the street from Doctors Hospital, for $24 million. Including its liquidation of working capital, Tenet expects to receive $33 million in proceeds and tax benefits. East Jefferson now owns two of the three hospitals in Metairie. The third hospital is 116-bed Lakeside Hospital, which is owned by HCA. Tenet has sold one other hospital on the list, in Texas, and has an agreement to sell four others in California. -- by Vince Galloro
