$500 billion prescription drug plan. ... But the debate will miss the real issue. Right now, we probably can't afford our existing Medicare system, especially with the new prescription drug entitlement thrown in. ... But that kind of discussion is unlikely to be heard this fall. Instead, we'll have a contest of who can promise more benefits. ... We should keep in mind that these are promises that no one is going to be able to keep."
