Five-hospital Catholic Health System, Buffalo, N.Y., said it has struck a 10-year, $100 million "strategic alliance" with Siemens Medical Solutions. The deal includes the purchase of healthcare information technology and medical imaging technologies from Siemens, including magnetic resonance, computed tomography, nuclear medicine and ultrasound; service support; special financing for technology acquisitions; and consulting. The deal also includes a "nonobsolescence" program to ensure that CHS has the latest technologies. "Critical to this alliance is Seimens' unique ability to help CHS develop a truly integrated electronic health record," the system's chief executive officer, Joe McDonald, said in a news release. -- by Cinda Becker
