The National Center for Healthcare Leadership, Chicago, unveiled "a database" of leadership competencies for healthcare executives, using benchmarks from Fortune's top 100 performers as a way to help guide the decisions and behaviors of hospital administrators and other healthcare businesspeople. Officials said researchers spent nearly two years on the NCHL's "Healthcare Leadership Competency Model," developing a list of 26 core competencies identified as vital to the success of executives and their organizations. Officials said the competencies are organized around three key areas of leadership: the ability to stimulate change, translate strategies into improved performance, and motivate and energize employees.
