University of North Carolina Health Care System, Chapel Hill, hired David Strong as president of its 621-bed Rex Healthcare, Raleigh, N.C., to replace Gary Park, who was named president of UNC Health Care earlier this year. Strong, 39, had worked as chief operating officer of Mercy Health Center, Oklahoma City, since 2000 and also worked at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, Baton Rouge, La. He was named one of Modern Healthcare's Up & Comers for 2003. In another personnel move this week, UNC Health Care named W. Alan Stewart as its chief financial officer. Stewart had been interim CFO since March 15 and had been CFO at Rex from April 2001 till briefly retiring in January 2004. -- by Vince Galloro
