While women continue to dominate some specialties in residency programs - including pediatrics and obstetrics-gynecology - they lag in some male-dominated specialties, including surgery, according to a survey by the Washington-based Association of American Medical Colleges. In 2002-2003, for instance, women made up almost 67% of all pediatric residents, and about 74% of those in obstetrics and gynecology. Meanwhile, women comprised just one-quarter of all surgery residents, the survey showed.
