Blue Cross of California today announced it would pay out $56.9 million in quality-performance bonuses to 134 physician groups based on 2003 data.
Marin Individual Practice Association was named the Blues' top performing physician group in northern California, while St. Jude Heritage Medical Group of Fullerton was the top performer in southern California.
"We are very pleased to once again recognize and reward physicians on the basis of delivering high quality healthcare and patient service throughout the state," said Jeffery Kamil, M.D., vice president and corporate medical director, Blue Cross of California, in a news release.
"We are seeing our members and patients benefiting from care that is quality-driven, and our physician partners are receiving recognition for moving the health delivery needle in this direction."
The quality measures included patient satisfaction, waiting times for appointments, the number of patient complaints and grievances, peer and staff reviews, patient turnover, management of chronic conditions and adherence to screening guidelines for breast and cervical cancer.
