The University of Miami School of Medicine is considering expanding a unique educational partnership that stretches north along the Atlantic Coast to Boca Raton, Fla.
This fall, 16 students will begin attending the University of Miami medical school at the Boca Raton campus of Florida Atlantic University as part of a collaboration designed to expand medical education in South Florida without the expense of opening new medical schools.
Now, the two schools are exploring the possibility of designating Boca Raton Community Hospital as a teaching affiliate, allowing the handful of students at FAU to begin clinical training.
"This is a win-win-win situation, not only for the three institutions but also for southern Palm Beach County," said John Clarkson, M.D., senior vice president for medical affairs and dean of the medical school.
