HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson, during a telephone news conference to tout the upcoming unveiling of the Bush administration's healthcare information-technology plan, said his agency would make "several key announcements" at the same time to promote healthcare IT. David Brailer, the nation's new healthcare IT czar, is scheduled to announce the administration's plan during a three-day meeting on the national health IT infrastructure July 21-23. Thompson did not elaborate on the forthcoming policy announcements, but he stressed how quickly his agency was advancing healthcare IT and the importance of continued action. "We're moving a lot faster than any of you out there could ever have projected or predicted six months ago," Thompson said. "It's still not fast enough." -- by Modern Physician/MP Stat
