Wholesale prices for general acute-care hospitals rose 0.3% in May after a 0.5% increase the previous month, while physician prices declined 0.1% after a 0.3% rise in April, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Producer Price Index. Both lagged behind prices for finished goods, which rose 0.8%. Hospital prices were 4.7% higher than a year earlier, while physician prices were 1.7% higher. -- by John Morrissey
