A consortium of healthcare associations sent letters to every member of the U.S. House of Representatives urging them to oppose Medicare and Medicaid spending caps. A number of House Republicans may introduce bills next week that could contain such caps among other budget enforcement measures. In the June 14 letter, the American Hospital Association, the Catholic Health Association, the American College of Physicians and other industry groups argued that Medicare has financial flexibility to "respond to the changing needs of the population, including advances in treatments, drugs and other technologies."
