Florida Gov. Jeb Bush signed a law that requires hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers to provide pricing and outcomes data for public review, creates a new public agency to help providers improve patient safety, and provides more lower-cost health insurance options for small employers and high-risk individuals. The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, which oversees the state Medicaid program, said the law also allows hospitals to set up emergency room diversion programs to funnel patients who don't require emergency care to more appropriate treatment options. Providers will be required to provide a link to information on the AHCA's Web site about their pricing. The law also requires the AHCA to develop a strategy promoting electronic medical records. -- by Vince Galloro
