Access to clinical information technology was a key factor in the decision by Columbus, Ohio-based Newborn Services to sell its seven-physician group practice to publicly traded Pediatrix Medical Group, the company announced today.
Newborn Services provides staffing to neonatal intensive care units at three Ohio hospitals in the Columbus area.
"We maintain very busy clinical schedules, caring for a lot of patients in several expanding facilities," said Nancy Hansen, M.D., the former president of Newborn Services, in a prepared statement issued by the acquiring company. "Pediatrix provides us with much-needed infrastructure to support our practice. We've been impressed by the clinical documentation systems developed by Pediatrix, and we are anxious to bring these tools to our hospital-based units."
Hansen is now medical director for Pediatrix in Columbus.
Pediatrix, based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., said it paid cash for the group practice, its seventh practice acquisition this year. The amount was not disclosed.
The company has operations in 37 states and Puerto Rico.
