St. Luke's Episcopal Health System, Houston, has recruited veteran academic health system leader David Fine to be its chief executive officer, one month after a significant new affiliation with Baylor College of Medicine. Fine, 53, has been CEO at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System since 1999. His previous jobs include leadership roles at Tulane University Medical Center, University of Cincinnati Medical Center and West Virginia University Hospitals. Fine replaces Michael Jhin, who retired at the end of 2003. Jack Lynch, who was CEO of St. Luke's flagship hospital, has been interim CEO and president of the two-hospital system. He previously told Modern Healthcare he was under consideration for the permanent CEO job. St. Luke's announced in April that it had become the primary private adult teaching affiliate of Baylor College of Medicine. -- by Mary Chris Jaklevic
