JPS Health Network, a public system in Fort Worth, Texas, said it will close its 13,500-member Medicaid HMO on Aug. 31, citing recent losses. In a news release, MetroWest Health Plan Executive Director Tom Pinchback said the HMO took on about 4,000 new members as a result of the August 2003 pullout of competitor HMO Blue Texas. Pinchback said the new members "contained a different risk group" that used more services than its membership prior to September 2003, causing higher costs. MetroWest signed its first contract in 1999. -- by Mary Chris Jaklevic
