Douglas French, president and chief executive officer of Ascension Health, St. Louis, announced his resignation after three years at the post. French, 50, said in an Ascension news release that he decided to retire after extensive personal and spiritual reflection during a sabbatical. French served 25 years with the Catholic healthcare system and its predecessors. Ascension named Chief Operating Officer Anthony Tersigni as interim CEO. Tersigni, 54, has been serving as interim chief of the 67-hospital system since French went on sabbatical in January. -- by Patrick Reilly
