George Liesmann, M.D., is the new chief medical officer of 571-bed St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, CEO Deborah German, M.D., announced today.
Liesmann, a vascular and thoracic surgeon, comes to St. Thomas from Sparks Health System in Fort Smith, Ark., where he was senior vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer.
Earlier, Liesmann had served as president of the medical staff at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Topeka, Kan., and as chief of general surgery for the U.S. Army at Fort Riley, Kan.
Liesmann received his medical degree from University of Kansas, where he also completed his residency in general surgery. He holds a master's degree in business administration from Baker University in Topeka, Kan.
