The National Alliance for Health Information Technology opened a Washington office and hired Bill Head, former director of congressional relations for the national Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, as vice president of policy and government affairs. Head, 45, who begins his new position May 3, has spent more than 15 years overseeing policy issues, primarily for health insurance organizations. "His knowledge and experience will help the alliance become even more effective at sharing information on key issues with federal policymakers and at keeping our members informed about government views and initiatives," said Scott Wallace, president and chief executive officer of the alliance. Founded in 2002, the Chicago-based organization seeks to accelerate implementation of standards-based information technology in the healthcare industry. -- by John Morrissey
