HHS appointed Charles Havekost as its chief information officer and deputy assistant secretary for information resources management. Havekost will oversee the agency's information technology resources, including systems and infrastructure. Previously he was program manager for grants.gov, an online resource for federal grants. Havekost replaces Melissa Chapman, who left the agency for the private sector in 2003. -- by Tony Fong
