Jean Bartels, professor and chair of the school of nursing at Georgia Southern University, was elected president of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
Bartels, who had served on the association's board since 1995, has provided guidance in the creation of the new role of clinical nurse leader. She also has testified before Congress on education and the workplace. Bartels will serve a two-year term.
"Jean Bartels is a visionary leader whose intellect, courage and passion for professional nursing education will serve the association well," said Kathleen Ann Long, immediate past president of the AACN. "Dr. Bartels is committed to advancing AACN's mission of improving patient care by creating a more highly educated nursing workforce." -- by Patrick Reilly
