Piedmont Medical Center, Atlanta, announced today it will purchase 26-bed Mountainside Medical Center in Jasper, Ga., from SunLink Health Systems. R. Timothy Stack, Piedmont's president and chief executive officer, said the purchase of Mountainside -- for about $40 million -- "fits well into Piedmont's plans to expand our healthcare services to north Georgia." The hospital is about an hour's drive north of Piedmont Hospital, the 450-bed flagship of not-for-profit Piedmont Medical Center. -- by Michael Romano
