The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society named its current chairman, David Garets, as president and chief executive officer of a new subsidiary formed to collect and sell information and research on information technology to the healthcare industry. Garets, executive vice president of HealthLink, a Houston-based healthcare consulting firm, will assume the new post May 1. He also will resign from the remainder of his one-year term as chairman. Chicago-based HIMSS announced in February the formation of the separate unit to expand a Web-based IT decision-assistance service called Solutions Toolkit. The service, which was not meeting revenue expectations, will be transferred to the new subsidiary. Stephen Lieber, HIMSS president and CEO, will add to his duties, taking on the title of board chairman of the yet-to-be-named subsidiary. -- by John Morrissey
