The CMS issued a correction to its latest regulations on physician self-referrals, saying it had mistakenly omitted two sections in the interim final rule published last week. The sections elaborate on how hospitals must report financial relationships with physicians and discuss sanctions for failing to fulfill reporting requirements or violating self-referral prohibitions. The section on reporting says ownership or investment interests in publicly traded securities are not considered "reportable financial relationships." There were no changes in the actual sanctions for violations. -- by Tony Fong
