The Healthcare Financial Management Association has elected Joyce Zimowski as the organization's voluntary board chairman for 2004-05. Her term will begin June 1. Zimowski, 48, who has been a board member since June 1998, will be inducted at the HFMA's Annual National Institute, set for June in Nashville. The American Hospital Association Section for Psychiatric and Substance Abuse Services has named Elizabeth Stallings, 47, as its 2004 chairwoman. She is COO of the medical pavilion of John Muir/Mount Diablo Health System, Concord, Calif. Stallings replaces Chester Schmidt Jr., chairman of the department of psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Baltimore.
Leonard Schaeffer, chairman and CEO of WellPoint Health Networks, Woodland Hills, Calif., joined the 14-member board of biotechnology giant Amgen, Thousand Oaks, Calif., one of 13 companies being sued in Pennsylvania for deceptive pricing tactics. Schaeffer, 58, plans to step down as WellPoint's CEO later this year, after the insurer completes its pending $16.3 billion merger with rival Anthem. ... Kathryn Sullivan has resigned as president and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, Baton Rouge, to pursue other opportunities. Sullivan, 47, joined the company in 1982 and served as CFO before being promoted to the top post in March 2000. Chief Marketing Officer Mike Reitz, who joined the company as a sales representative in 1977, will serve as interim president and CEO until a successor is found.
Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, Cape May Court House, N.J., has named Joanne Carrocino, 42, as president; she will take office in April. She was executive director of Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood, N.J. Carrocino will succeed Burdette Tomlin Health System President and CEO Thomas Scott, who plans to retire in January 2005. ... Ronald Lilek, 51, has been named vice president of human resources of Beaumont Hospitals, Royal Oak, Mich. He had served as senior vice president of human resources of Fairview Health Services, Minneapolis. Lilek replaces Joe Boivin. ... Sisters of Mercy Health System, St. Louis, has named John Sullivan executive vice president and COO. He had served as executive vice president of Loyola University Health System, Chicago. Sullivan replaces Jim Hobbs. Sisters of Mercy also named Olivia Kirk vice president of operations for the Genesis Project, a quality- and process-improvement program at the system, and Jay Guffey, has been named vice president of clinical services for the project. Kirk was vice president of the national healthcare business unit for Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, Chicago. Guffey was clinical vice president of St. John's Health System, Springfield, Mo. Donna Chandler also has been named corporate director of revenue for the project. She was director of health information services and clinical transcription at St. John's Mercy Medical Center, St. Louis. ... David Hoover, 46, has been named vice president of business development at the Heart Hospital of Milwaukee. He had served as vice president of operations for National Surgical Hospitals, Chicago.
