HealthSouth Corp., Birmingham, Ala. -- alleged to have overstated earnings by up to $2.7 billion over a seven-year period -- said it likely won't file its 2003 annual report until the first quarter of 2005. HealthSouth said although it has completed a forensic accounting audit, it continues to reconstruct financial statements and has been unable to determine the extent to which revising past results will affect operations. The company also said it is seeking modifications to the reporting terms of its debt to prevent creditors from demanding accelerated repayment. The changes include asking some creditors to allow the company to temporarily suspend its obligation to provide compliance documents to creditor trustees and securities regulators. -- by Julie Piotrowski
