David Shapiro, M.D., was re-elected to a one-year term as president of the American Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers, and re-elected to a three-year term on the 12-member board of directors of the Johnson City, Tenn.-based trade association for physician-led ASCs.
Shapiro, an anesthesiologist, is senior vice president for medical affairs for Surgis, an ASC developer with headquarters in Nashville.
John Duggan, M.D., medical director of MedPro Orthopedic Institute, of Phoenix, Ariz., was named vice president of the association; and David George, M.D., of Ohio Valley Eye Physicians was named to the board of directors.
Sarah Wainscott, administrative director of Solus Management Services, which manages four ASCs in the Memphis, Tenn., area and is president of the Freestanding Ambulatory Surgery Center Association of Tennessee, also was elected to the AAASC board.
Mark Mayo, executive director of Illinois Freestanding Surgery Center Association, was named secretary, and Dan Tasset, president of ASC developer Neuterra Healthcare of Shawnee Mission, Kan., was named treasurer.
