UAB Health System, Birmingham, Ala., has agreed to take over management of the three hospitals in Baptist Health of Montgomery (Ala.) -- 342-bed Baptist Medical Center of Montgomery, 138-bed Baptist Medical Center East of Montgomery and 47-bed Prattville (Ala.) Baptist Hospital. The management agreement must be ratified by the boards of both organizations within 30 days. UAB said it was approached by Baptist to improve efficiencies and revenue at the system. About 40% of physicians at the Baptist hospitals in Montgomery are graduates of the UAB School of Medicine. -- by Michael Romano
