GNYHA Ventures, a for-profit subsidiary of Greater New York Hospital Association, has renewed its contract with Premier Purchasing Partners, the group purchasing affiliate of Premier, Modern Healthcare has learned. Financial terms were not disclosed. The seven-year contract, effective July 1, for the first time allows greater purchasing flexibility through regional contracting, to be managed by GNYHA. The organization's current seven-year contract expires June 30. More than 100 not-for-profit hospitals collectively purchase about $2 billion in supplies annually through GNYHA supplies -- about 11% of Premier's total purchasing volume. Two other GPOs - Broadlane and MedAssets - also competed for the contract. Giuliani Partners, a consulting firm headed by former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and retained by GNYHA, recommended the selection of Premier. "I think this is the next evolution for GPOs and Premier," said Susan Devore, president of Premier Purchasing Partners.
