Drug distributor Cardinal Health is expanding its medical device business with the purchase of Snowden Pencer, a privately held surgical instrument manufacturer. Financial terms were not disclosed. The company, which was founded in 1951 and employs about 100 people primarily in Tucker, Ga., makes specialty surgical equipment used to perform laparoscopic, cosmetic and heart and chest surgeries. Cardinal officials said the acquisition broadens the company's line of specialty and general-use surgery equipment that sells mostly under the V. Mueller brand and marks another step in Cardinal's strategy to broaden its medical device businesses. -- by Cinda Becker
