The positions had been vacant since last September, when Eric Norwood was promoted to president and CEO of the system. ... James Harden has been named president and CEO of five-hospital Catholic Health Services of Long Island, Rockville Centre, N.Y., effective March 15. Harden, 52, will succeed Patrick Scollard, who has served as interim president of the healthcare system for the past year. Harden, a veteran of New York healthcare, is currently executive director of the Regional Care Network of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. ... Ronald Kaufman has been named chief medical officer for 18 Tenet Healthcare Corp. hospitals in California and one in Nebraska. Kaufman, a rheumatologist, comes to the appointment from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, where he served as senior associate dean for administration and associate senior vice president for administration for the university. Before that, he was chief medical officer for the Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center and Healthcare Network.
U.S. Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) is expected to be confirmed as the new chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee next week, a committee spokesman says. Barton would replace Billy Tauzin (R-La.), who has resigned the chairmanship and says he won't seek re-election to Congress. The Energy and Commerce Committee writes Medicaid policy, presides over health policy issues, such as quality and the uninsured, and shares jurisdiction over Medicare with the House Ways and Means Committee. Barton was nominated to the post last week by a House steering committee.

Carolynn Walton was promoted to vice president and treasurer of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan, Detroit. She replaces Brenda Ball, who left to pursue other opportunities. Walton previously was director of treasury services for the plan.
