The Supreme Court of California gave Tenet Healthcare Corp., Santa Barbara, Calif., some good news and some bad news. The bad news is the court denied the company's petition to appeal a $148 million breach-of-contract judgment awarded last fall to John Bedrosian, a founder of Tenet's predecessor company, National Medical Enterprises. The good news is the court also turned down Bedrosian's request to overturn a part of the ruling that knocked $105 million off the original $253 million award. Tenet said it set aside money for the award last year and expects to pay Bedrosian in the next few weeks. -- by Vince Galloro
