Consorta, Rolling Meadows, Ill., one of the last GPO holdouts in choosing an e-commerce partner, said it will use Neoforma for content and data cleansing to improve the accuracy and analysis of purchasing reports. However, the use of Neoforma for online purchasing -- a service the company most notably provides GPO giant Novation -- remains an independent decision for Consorta shareholders, a Consorta spokeswoman said. While short of linking Consorta member hospitals to Neoforma's electronic marketplace, the agreement "is a judicious and deliberate next step for Consorta," said John Strong, president and chief executive officer of Consorta, in a news release. "It is an important foundation for other avenues of potential partnership with Neoforma." -- by Cinda Becker
