HCA of Nashville says it sold three physician group practices and is negotiating to sell a fourth as it continues to integrate its acquisition of the former Health Midwest system, Kansas City, Mo.
HCA acquired the system's nine owned and four leased or managed hospitals in a $1.1 billion deal in April 2003.
Ken Washington, vice president for operations at the MidWest division of HCA Physician Services, said that the four practices have been or will be resold to the physicians. Additionally, two solo practices were closed when the physicians decided not to repurchase, he said.
HCA does not plan to drop the remaining 100 physicians on its MidWest division payroll, most of whom provide primary care, but will evaluate the practices periodically for potential sales, he said.
