Universal Health Services, King of Prussia, Pa., said it has agreed to purchase 178-bed Lakeland Medical Center, New Orleans, for undisclosed terms, from HCA, Nashville. UHS agreed earlier this year to purchase 253-bed Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital, New Orleans; the deal is expected to close Dec. 31. UHS also owns a psychiatric hospital, 121-bed River Oaks Hospital, New Orleans. All three hospitals are on the city's east side. UHS said the Lakeland acquisition "is expected to allow for additiional operational efficiencies."
