Erlanger Health System, Chattanooga, Tenn., has tapped Jim Brexler, a division head at Louisiana State University Health Care Services, Baton Rouge, as its next CEO. Brexler, 52, who is expected to start March 1, will receive a $360,000 annual salary with a 30% performance bonus, plus a $20,000 signing bonus, Erlanger said. The four-hospital public system has been without a CEO since February, when Dennis Pettigrew resigned. Brexler joined LSU in 1999 where he oversaw reforms of Louisiana's charity hospital system. Brexler previously served as CEO of Oakwood Healthcare in Dearborn, Mich., and General Health System in Baton Rouge, and is a former chairman of the Louisiana Hospital Association. Erlanger reported net income of $26.5 million and net operating revenue of $425 million in fiscal 2003, ended June 30. -- by Mary Chris Jaklevic
