Modern Healthcare congratulates the winners and runners-up of this year's Spirit of Excellence Awards, co-sponsored by Sodexho Health Care Services, an Avon, Conn.-based health services company. This year's competition drew 155 nominations, far surpassing last year's record of 100 entries.
Modern Healthcare and Sodexho announced this year's award competition on Aug. 4, and the deadline for entry submission was Oct. 13. All of the submitted entries can be found online at sodexho-bps.com under the "Best Practices Showcase" section.
This year's winners and runners-up are profiled on the following pages. Each of the four winners will receive a cash prize of $5,000, and each of the four runners-up will receive a $1,500 cash prize.
To assist Modern Healthcare in making the selections, the magazine enlisted the help of four judges, all affiliated with last year's Spirit of Excellence Award winners. They are: Gordon Alexander, president of Fairview University Medical Center, Minneapolis; Carol Berster, chief executive officer of Presbyterian Homes in the Presbytery of Huntingdon, Hollidaysburg, Pa.; Brian Lockwood, president and CEO of Community Health Partners, Lorain, Ohio; and Steven Tucker, president of Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown, Pa.
Modern Healthcare and Sodexho would like to thank the judges for their work. Modern Healthcare and Sodexho also would like to thank the following people for making this year's competition a huge success: Kristine Peterson, president of Chicago-based healthcare consulting company Greystone Interactive, who facilitated this year's awards program; Kathleen Robson, Modern Healthcare copy editor, who coordinated the competition and assigned and edited the profiles of the winners; and Ed Finkel, a freelance writer based in Evanston, Ill., who wrote the profiles. Finkel can be reached at [email protected]
