The Cleveland Clinic is entering into its first partnership outside of Ohio by agreeing to manage the cardiothoracic surgery department at Rochester (N.Y.) General Hospital.
Three cardiac surgeons at Rochester General are becoming employees of the 1,100-physician practice under an accord announced Nov. 19.
Delos Cosgrove, M.D., Cleveland Clinic thoracic and cardiovascular surgery chair, says the partnership will expand educational and business opportunities for the Rochester surgeons and help build Cleveland Clinic name recognition in New York state.
"They will be able to benefit from our gigantic (outcomes) database," a repository of some 50,000 patients going back to 1970, Cosgrove says
The Cleveland Clinic has a group practice affiliate in Florida and runs heart surgery programs at several Cleveland-area hospitals, but the Rochester agreement is the first out-of-state arrangement its kind.
