The CMS selected three organizations for a pilot project to test whether disease management and outpatient drug coverage can improve health outcomes for people with chronic heart problems or complex diabetes without increasing the costs to Medicare. The organizations -- CorSolutions, Rosemont, Ill.; Diabetex/XLHealth, Baltimore, and HeartPartners, Santa Ana, Calif. -- will recruit a total of up to 30,000 Medicare beneficiaries beginning in January 2004 for the three-year project. The project covers Arizona, California, and parts of Louisiana and Texas. -- by Tony Fong
