Daniel Rissing, hired just four weeks ago as interim CEO at Baptist Health System, Birmingham, Ala., has abruptly quit the top job, officials said. Rissing was expected to serve as interim CEO for at least 90 days while the 10-hospital system conducted a search for a permanent replacement for Dennis Hall, who was fired July 12 in a board shakeup that quashed plans to sell Baptist to a for-profit hospital company. Rissing told officials at Baptist that his decision was based on "pressing personal reasons," according to a news release. David Jarrard, a spokesman for the system, said, "It's a very big system and a very significant transition. What the board did was about change -- it wasn't about protecting the status quo." The finalists to replace Hall are expected to be interviewed within two weeks, and the board has decided not to name another interim CEO until a new CEO is selected. -- by Michael Romano
