Westerly (R.I.) Hospital has replaced its CEO of 15 years and laid off 36 employees, including two vice presidents, as part of a financial turnaround effort. The 125-bed hospital, which projects a $4 million operating loss for its fiscal year ended Sept. 30, named Karen Poole as its interim CEO. Poole was recruited by Cambio Health Solutions, Brentwood, Tenn., which was hired in August to help develop a turnaround plan for the facility. A search continues for a permanent replacement for former CEO Michael Lally, who resigned earlier this month. Eliminating the 36 positions will save the hospital about $2.5 million annually, officials said. -- by Jeff Tieman
