Theresa Bischoff, president of New York University Medical Center since 1998, will become CEO of the American Red Cross in Greater New York as of Jan. 1, 2004. She succeeds Robert Bender Jr., who retired this summer after 42 years with the relief agency. Bischoff joined NYU in 1984. In 2001 she chaired the Greater New York Hospital Association and helped secure federal financial assistance for Sept. 11, 2001, recovery efforts. Last week NYU officials announced that Eric Rackow, the hospital's chief medical officer and senior vice president, would succeed Bischoff, who previously announced plans to retire from NYU on Jan. 1. -- by Cinda Becker
