Tenet Healthcare Corp., Santa Barbara, Calif., said it received a subpoena from the U.S. attorney in Los Angeles related to the federal prosecutor's probe of Tenet's Medicare outlier payments. Tenet said the subpoena seeks medical and billing records dating to 1998 for specific patients treated at two Tenet hospitals -- Tarzana (Calif.) Regional Medical Center and USC University Hospital, Los Angeles -- as well as personnel and gross billing records for the hospitals. Tenet said it would continue to cooperate with the investigation, one of several the company faces from Congress, federal prosecutors and HHS related to Medicare outlier payments and physician relocation agreements. Tenet owns and operates 112 hospitals, including 11 hospitals it has agreed to sell. -- by Vince Galloro
