The U.S. attorney in New Orleans issued a subpoena yesterday to a health plan management company that is half-owned by Tenet Healthcare Corp., Santa Barbara, Calif., the company said. Several independent physician associations own the other half of the company, Peoples Health Network, Tenet said. PHN administers Tenet Choices, a Medicare HMO owned by Tenet. The subpoena demands documents from Jan. 1, 1999, to the present, including PHN's membership data, agenda and minutes of meetings, policy manuals and the company's articles of incorporation and bylaws, Tenet said. Tenet said the subpoena did not reveal the focus of the criminal investigation. Tenet owns and operates 112 hospitals, including 11 hospitals that it has agreed to sell. -- by Vince Galloro
