"It is absurd that losing a job in the wealthy (U.S.) means losing coverage for healthcare. Yet an additional 2.4 million people became uninsured last year after they became unemployed or moved to jobs where their employers don't provide health insurance. ... Laid-off workers have the option of continuing their insurance, but they must bear the full cost out of their own pockets-at the very time their income has ceased. It is a nonsensical system. Access to healthcare should not depend on being fortunate enough to find work with an employer willing or able to offer some measure of coverage."
