Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis, which is building a $100 million heart hospital, says it has reached a deal with Siemens that could save the hospital at least $35 million over the next 10 years. Under the agreement, Abbott will have exclusive use of new cardiac medical equipment being developed by Siemens Medical Solutions, while Siemens will use the hospital as a development site. The heart hospital, scheduled to open in 2005, will occupy the first five floors of a new eight-story tower. Technology costs for the tower are budgeted at $30 million for medical equipment and $10 million for information systems. The Siemens equipment will include surgical and diagnostic imaging equipment, as well as the interfaces allowing information to be shared across platforms. -- Associated Press
