HHS, the American Hospital Association and the American Medical Association are working together to distribute posters and fact sheets designed to help patients prevent medical errors. The posters, which are being sent this week to hospitals nationwide, advise patients to take such steps as requesting test results, keeping a list of medications they take and talking to physicians about which hospital in their area provides the best care. The three organizations are sharing the cost of printing and distribution, an HHS spokeswoman said. The posters, she said, "encourage a dialogue between patients and healthcare providers." HHS' share of the mailing is no more than a few thousand dollars, according to the agency. The poster and related information can be viewed at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Web site. -- by Jeff Tieman
