The White House plans to nominate as the next HHS inspector general James Huse Jr., who is current inspector general of the Social Security Administration, Modern Healthcare has learned. Huse did not return phone calls. Officials at HHS, the White House and Huse's office declined to comment on the matter. Senate staff, however, said Huse's nomination to replace former HHS Inspector General Janet Rehnquist could be announced as early as Monday. Rehnquist resigned in June after two government reports criticized her judgment and actions while in office. Huse, a Vietnam war veteran, served with the Secret Service for 25 years and was at one time its assistant director. He graduated from Boston College in 1965. -- by Mark Taylor
