Seven senators have formed a working group to monitor congressional negotiators charged with crafting a compromise Medicare reform bill. The senators, both Republicans and Democrats, sent a letter to negotiators outlining principles they want reflected in any compromise plan, including equal benefits for all beneficiaries and affordability. Members of the group are: Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.), Mike DeWine (R-Ohio), James Jeffords (I-Vt.), Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.), Olympia Snowe (R-Me.) and Arlen Specter (R-Pa.). -- by Tony Fong
