Mercy Alliance, the parent of two-hospital Mercy Health System, Janesville, Wis., is seeking certificate-of-need approval from Illinois to build the first new, nonreplacement hospital in the state in the past 28 years -- a 70-bed, $81.4 million hospital in Crystal Lake, about 40 miles northwest of Chicago. If approved, Mercy Crystal Lake Hospital and Medical Center should be completed by late 2005, said Javon Bea, president and CEO of Mercy Health System. Bea said the new hospital would be financed through cash reserves and bond issues. -- by Mark Taylor
